Map of Educational Technology

Do you feel a bit overwhelmed by the complexity and rapid change in the field of educational technology? Well here is a map of at least some of the technology that you are either already responsible for or may be thinking about investigating for future use.

Obviously you cannot do your job as a teacher, preparing your subject matter materials, grading, interacting with students, and also be able to tackle the dizzying array of technological possibilities.  My suggestion is to pick one technology area, let’s say simulations, and try to master that area and integrate it into your curriculum. Leave the rest for future consideration.

The other question is what technology initiatives is your district, school, or department pushing for you to learn?  And are those initiatives realistic along with your other responsibilities?  Please share what is happening in your school.

Adobe Education Exchange

In today’s world, it’s becoming more and more important to convey information as clearly and concisely as possible.  And that often means utilizing the latest in visual technology.

This is a part of Adobe’s website containing videos and workshops about how to use their technology tools in education.

I’m waiting for our politicians to use as much visual technology as our teachers.  When have you ever seen them use any visuals, perhaps a pie chart illustrating where the government spends its money.

A Vision for 21st Century Learning

[like]

The idea of using 3D video game technology to foster learning by motivating learners sounds great in theory. But I believe it will take a lot of resources, hard work, and crawling up a steep learning curve to make it happen. So far, we spend millions to develop fancy 3D state of the art video games, while spending almost nothing on more useful 2D learning  games.  I believe we need to concentrate on the 1st and 2nd tiers of game technology and leave the 3rd tier and 3D type technologies for the future.  Of course, any of these ideas will only come to fruition if we allocate the dollars and manpower to make it a reality. Here’s hoping.
